Chennai, (TruthDive): The exodus of the N-E people that was undoubtedly caused by rumour-mongers who want to create panic in the minds of the people has not yet healed that, Muslim women and children in large numbers rushed to hospitals on Eid eve after rumors were spread that two women lost their lives after applying mehendhi on their hands and a girl lost her limbs. However police are looking for the person who sent a text message that went viral on Monday night.
A number of government hospitals were engaged with women and children with mehendhi on their hands, complaining a sense of itching and irritation after they came to know about the rumours from the neighbourhood. Doctors declared that many women came running due to psychological fear. The rumour text that was spread was as per,” A girl after applying mehendhi to her hands and legs got infected; therefore her hands and legs were cut off. Police said that the message was absolutely false and was sent with an intention to create panic among people. The police team rushed to the hospitals to calm down the women and children who thronged the government general hospitals, the Institute of Child Health, the Government Royapettah Hospital, the Stanley Medical College Hospital and the Chromepet Government Hospital. Doctors administered injections to those who complained of itching. Some were prescribed with allergy tablets. A total of two -hundred women were treated at GH, fifteen at ICH and above six -hundred were treated at GRH. Sources said a large number of women were crowded at Stanley hospital and eight women were kept under observation. They were discharged later after administering with drips. An earlier enquiry revealed that the message was either activated from Ambur or Krishnagiri. “Strict actions will be taken against the people responsible for creating panic. Special teams have been formed to trace the culprits. We are sure the culprit will be caught soon,” said Chennai police commissioner J K Tripathy. |
